Vernon Moon

ROY - July 2, 2010, Vernon Moon died of natural causes at the age of 94
surrounded by loved ones.

Vernon was born April 1, 1916 in Hanna, Utah. He was raised on a sheep farm and attended school at Hanna, Provo, Roosevelt, and graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in education.

In 1938-40 he served as a missionary in the Texas/Louisiana Mission.
He married Dorothy Alice Belisle in the Salt Lake Temple June 11, 1942.
Vernon served in the Air Corps during World War II for three years.

Vernon taught school at Tabiona, Avalon, Todd, Neola, and Roosevelt before retiring and moving to Orem. He was known for his sense of humor.

Vernon, Dorothy and their two youngest daughters, Catherine and Amelia, served a Stake Indian Mission in Randlett, Utah for two and a half years. After retirement, Vernon and Dorothy served a CES mission in Billings, Montana, and another mission in St. Louis, Missouri. They were volunteers at the MTC for five years and served as Ordinance workers at the Provo Temple for five years.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, his five daughters, Dottie Smith (Jerry), Rebecca Smith (Steve), Mayna Edrington (John), Amelia Fawson (Bob), and Catherine Hickman (Steve), 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Venice VanWagner of Salt Lake.

Services will be held Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Roy 26th Ward, 3649 West 4800 South, Roy, Utah. Friends and family can visit Friday at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Interment, Roy City Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the LDS Perpetual Education fund.
