Viggo E. Villadsen

–

Clinton, Utah

Viggo Ejler Villadsen, 95, of Clinton, Utah, passed away on May 19, 2025. Born on February 26, 1930, in Fåborg, Denmark. He was the son of the late Peder and Helga Villadsen.

Viggo was baptized on April 6, 1930 at the Fåborg Church in Helle County, Denmark, beginning a lifelong commitment to the Lutheran faith. He attended Light of the Valley Lutheran Church in Layton, Utah from July 2016 until his passing, where he was a devout and active member. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God—not the result of works, so that no one may boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Viggo immigrated to the United States in 1959. He drove truck during his early adult years. He was instrumental in the building of Trolley Square in Salt Lake City into the shopping mall that it is today. Afterwards, he went to work for Big D Construction in Ogden, UT until his retirement in 2002. He recounted with a smile on his face that he moved to the US so that he could drive his own car.

Viggo was a skilled carpenter and loved woodworking. He spent much of his time in his woodshop building furniture, wooden dogs, crosses, and even a boat. Viggo was also a man of music, adept at the organ and accordion, and never missed a Saturday night dance. When not engaged in these pursuits, Viggo could often be found fishing with his family or working on his yard, always with a cup of coffee in hand.

He served honorably in the Danish Army from 1952-54, and, in recognition of his 90th birthday, received a commendation from the President of the United States of America.

Viggo is survived by his children, Eric Villadsen, Sonja Laws, Bent Schmidt, and Celie Eclaire. He is also survived by his step-family (the Lovatos). He was preceded in death by his parents, Peder and Helga Villadsen.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 6:00pm MDT at the Light of the Valley Lutheran Church, 1074 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah, 84040.
