VIRGINIA STUART MCFARLAND
WEST WEBER - Virginia Stuart McFarland, 84, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2008, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her children. She was born November 26, 1923, the daughter of George Scoffield Stuart and Leda Moss Stuart, growing up in Syracuse, and attending Davis High School. She married George Dee McFarland on October 23, 1940, in Ogden, UT. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and enjoyed teaching Relief Society, Sunday School, Primary, and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She also spent many years serving as a visiting teacher. She had a beautiful voice and sang solo, and in a quartet whenever asked.
Our mother was a dairy farmer's wife, and worked side by side with dad in the fields harvesting potatoes, and driving the hay, tomato and beet trucks along with helping milk the cows. She also served as President of the Weber County Dairy Wives Association, and enjoyed working with the dairy princesses. Dad and Mom started building apartments in 1969, with Mom managing the business. Our mother left behind a beautiful family history which we will all treasure.
She was a loving and devoted mother of seven children, singing around the house and always having wonderful meals ready for hungry children. She was our taxi as we were involved in many sports activities and lessons. She was our example making sure we always offered prayers and were grateful for our blessings. She was the joy in our home and we will miss our angel mother.
Our heartfelt thanks go to those who helped us care for our mother: Heidi, Mitzi, Cheri, Jessi, Tami, Alisha, and JoAnn.
Surviving are her children, Joan (Thane) Hales, Marlene (John) Swan, Deon (Terri) McFarland, Layne (Laura) McFarland, Jill (Mark) Hancock, and Mark (Lisa) McFarland, 34 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren, her sister Barbara (Gary) Faulk, and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Arave, Fern Wheelwright, and Twyla Peters. She was preceded in death by her husband Dee, their son Val Dee (married to Jan Champneys), and her brothers Norman and Carl.
