WAYNE ELLIS PALMER
October 8, 1943 - April 20, 2023
Wayne Ellis Palmer caught the train back to heaven on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at his home with his sweetheart by his side in Sunset after an extended battle with acute myeloid leukemia.
Wayne was born to Edson Lavell Palmer and Ida Mae Palmer in Moab, Utah, on October 8, 1943. Wayne was the fifth of six children.
While serving in the United States Air Force, Wayne met the love of his life, Susan Jolley. They were sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on November 21, 1969, and had a wonderful 53-year beginning to their forever family.
With tremendous creative gifts and capabilities, Wayne studied art at Weber State College. He spent his entire working career with the State of Utah Department of Public Safety in the Driver License Division. After retiring, he relished his role in loving and serving his family as a full-time grandpa.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Susan, and their five children, Mark (Annette) Palmer, Denece (Steven) Hall, Jared (Pamela) Palmer, Nathan (Julie) Palmer, and Tami (Brent) Reed; 25 grandchildren, each of whom is his favorite: Cami (Chad) Mecham, Nala (Logan) Lang, Shannon (Hollis) Holbrook, Tucker Hall, Molly, Justin Palmer, Kayley Reed, Teancum (Maeva) Hall, Emma Palmer, Devin (Danielle) Palmer, Gideon Hall, Cameron Reed, Sera Palmer, Zaytey Hall, Cory Reed, Lucy Palmer, Porter Hall, Kady Palmer, Abbie Palmer, Kenzie Reed, Eliza Palmer, Hannah Reed, Daniel Palmer, Cade Palmer, Hadley Reed; great-grandchildren, Elsie Mecham and Max Holbook (with two more joining the family this summer); his brothers Jay (Lillian) Palmer, Clyde (Sherry) Palmer, and his sister Carolyn Maughn; and his in-law family that he loved as his own, Larry (Rexalee) Jolley, Michael (Marjean) Jolley, Kathy (Mike) Rigby, Becky (Dean) Fonnesbeck, Janeen Passey, Melinda (Brent) Roth, and David (Betsy) Jolley.
Waiting for him at the heavenly train station were those who preceded him in death: his parents; his in-laws, George and Melba Jolley; his brothers, Allen and Gary; and his tortoise that he shot as a child.
Wayne left a legacy of devoted and dedicated service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a full-time missionary in the Northwestern States, and then later with his wife in the Nebraska Omaha Mission. He faithfully served in many Church callings, including twice as a bishop. He loved serving as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Utah and Winter Quarters Nebraska Temples. He had a love of learning and teaching about the Mormon Battalion.
Wayne was a disciple of Jesus Christ and emulated unconditional love to all. He was willing to serve and cheerfully did all he could for anyone. He shared his gifts, talents and creative genius and was able to figure out how to fix just about anything. Wayne's light and love will live on through his posterity and all who were blessed to know him.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Primary Children's Hospital in honor of the care they provided Wayne's grandchildren over the years.
