Wayne Stromberg Obituary (1929 - 2024)

Victor Wayne Stromberg, known by loved ones as Wayne, peacefully passed away on January 21, 2024. Born in Ogden, UT, on March 31, 1929, Dad spent a lifetime proving himself to be a dedicated, loving, supportive and loyal individual in all aspects of his life. Dad graduated from Ogden High School in 1947. He was a Tiger throughout his life. If there was a game, you probably saw him there. It wasn't just the school, but it was the people that he loved; the students, the coaches, the players and everything associated with the most beautiful school around. After graduating from high school, Dad enlisted in the Air Force and served four years stationed in Panama. When he came home, he met and fell in love with a cute little gal named Carolyn Thornley. They fell in love and were married April 14, 1953. He loved his work as a Logistics Manager with the Department of Defense at Hill Air Force Base, Dad's dedication led him to a successful career until his retirement in 1987. Following retirement, he became a full-time substitute at his rival school Ben Lomond. He truly loved this experience, and he left his imprint there by positively impacting many of his students. He was much more than his profession, though, as those who knew him would attest. Dad was the quintessential athlete. He excelled in baseball, fast-pitch softball, basketball, track, and bowling, receiving numerous outstanding athletic awards. He was a proud member of several of the top fast-pitch softball teams in the nation, competing at the highest national level for the championship. Later in life, he discovered a love for golf, enjoying the sport just as much as his other athletic pursuits. Dad's love for camaraderie and physical health led him to the Ogden Athletic Club, where he cherished the friendships made with all of the members. But it wasn't just sports that brought Wayne joy; he had a deep love for his family and friends, which was evident in the way he supported his children and grandchildren in their sporting events. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time at his son Paul's property in Treasureton, Idaho. Dad was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His faith journey was one of "becoming," as his family lovingly states. Mom's 71 years of tutoring, loving and example will pay off as he completes the linking of his family together throughout the eternities with the help of those that have greeted him on the other side of the veil. Dad is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Thornley Stromberg, his children Mark (Teena) and Brian (Becky), and his dedicated daughters, Vicki (Neil) and Jodi. Additionally, he is survived by 15 Grandchildren and 30 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arvid "Swede" Stromberg and Ada Pippin, his son Paul (Julianne) Stromberg, his sisters Ruth Jorgensen and Verle Needham, brothers-in-law Wendell Jorgensen and Ray Needham, and his beloved grandchildren Cody Mark Stromberg, Jared Wayne Stromberg, Blake Dean Stromberg, and Alysha Stromberg. Wayne's life was marked by love, dedication, and a deep sense of loyalty. His loss has been greatly felt, but his memory will continue to inspire and guide those who knew him. Dad's unwavering love for his family and friends will always be remembered! On behalf of the family, we want to express our deepest gratitude to Canyon Hospice and Home Care. Funeral will be held at Myers on Tuesday January 30th at 11 AM with a viewing prior from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM.
