Wendell Elmer

–

Ogden, Utah

Wendell LaRay Elmer, known to friends and family as Wendell, passed away on October 2, 2026, at the age of 85. Born on November 5, 1940, in Ogden, UT, Wendell grew to be a man of unwavering faith, generous spirit, and profound wisdom. His smart mind, funny nature, and thoughtful heart touched many lives during his time with us.

After completing his education, Wendell made a brave journey to California to join the fire department and combat forest fires. This courageous act of service was a testament to his generous spirit and commitment to the welfare of others. Following this, Wendell joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a corpsman and continuing his tradition of service. Upon his discharge, he attended Weber State University, studying a variety of subjects that reflected his smart and curious nature. He then spent over 30 years with the U.S. Post Office, holding many positions and continuing to serve his community even after his retirement in 1993, when he continued to deliver mail in the Ogden valley and canyon.

Wendell was a man of many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed the challenge of chess, the thrill of racing, and was a lifelong student with a thirst for knowledge. He was a firm believer in respect for all life and autonomy, values he upheld throughout his life. His deep faith in the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints guided his actions and interactions with others. In the words of the Book of Mormon, "And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." (Mosiah 2:17)

Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, George and LaRee Elmer; his beloved wife, Dianne Elmer; brothers, Joseph, James, and Douglas Elmer; and sister Marlene Grua and sister-in-law, Kathleen Elmer. He is survived by his loving children, David Elmer, Kelley Cantu, Tiffany (Daniel) Brewer, Melissa (Shawn) Reynolds.

Wendell's life was a testament to his enduring faith, his love for his family, and his dedication to serving others. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
