William ''Bill'' George Tatton

ROY - William 'Bill' George Tatton, 63, died Sunday, August 26, 2001 of heart failure at his home.

He was born April 16, 1938 to Richard George and Bessie Buchanan Tatton in Manti, Utah and raised in Sanpete and Carbon Counties.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he held several callings some of these were Elder's Quorum President, Sunday School President, High Priest Group Leader, Stake Clerk, Family History Coordinator, and Home Teacher. He was an active leader in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scout Commissioner, Scout Master, and helped all four of his sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

He married Ruth Gunnell on the 11 August, 1961 in the Logan Temple and they had just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

He was a Veteran of the Naval Submarine Service where he achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He served on the USS Frank Knox, USS Brister, USS Diablo, USS Jallao, USS Andrew Jackson, USS Daniel Boone, and the USS James Madison. He retired with twenty years of active duty service. He graduated from Utah State University with a B.S. degree in industrial education.

While living in Brookfield, Wisconsin he worked for P&H Harnischfeger as a technical instructor and technical writer. He also retired from civil service at Hill Air Force Base where he worked as a technical writer and equipment specialist.

He was the father of four sons and two daughters. He was also the grandfather of five grandsons and four granddaughters.

His hobbies were scouting, genealogy, wood working, bowling, and family history.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother Betty Sanderson Tatton, sister Glenna Shannon, and brother-in-law Jim McKinney.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Gunnell Tatton, Roy, UT; four sons and two daughters,Richard Lyle, Richard Lyle Tatton, Jr. Ogden, UT; Mary (Michael), Jonathan, Jennifer, RuthAnn, Stephen, Taylor, Palm Bay, FL; Helen, Melissa Naylor, Roy, UT; David (Candace) Shawn, Tyler, Mariah Tatton, Roy, UT; John Tatton, Enterprise, AL; James Tatton, Roy, UT; four brothers and three sisters, Michael (LuJean) Tatton, Draper, UT; Richard (Connie) Conrad, Midway, UT; Carolyn McKinney, Melbourne, FL; Beverly (Jack) Breslow, Forest Hills, NY; Margie Sawyer, Edgewater, FL; Lyle Dwane Sawyer, Singapore; Mac Sawyer, Lyons, NY.
